Calling the dog Dogmeat in Fallout 4 is a reference to the apocalyptic 1975 film "A Boy and his Dog". Then there's little "Maximus" that survives a nuclear blast in a refrigerator which is a reference to Indiana Jones. 🤷‍♂ Also, the game world starts in an alternate reality where people didn't just "think" that atomic energy would create a new civilization and robots would run around, but that's what actually happened. Also, this takes place in the Fallout universe, but isn't in any game,. Technically, it's supposed to take place after New Vegas.

The robot she found in the desert, is a military Assaultron. They attack anyone that gets close to their area. Hard to kill and heavily armed.

The revival of the dog represents the ability of your dog companion to survive a battle in one of the games. But all other dogs (e.g. Raider dogs, wild dogs, etc) are mortal in the game. Some of the wild dogs look like those nasty mutant dogs from the Resident Evil films.

The slow motion shooting in Filly represents the V.A.T.S. targeting system in the games. Time slows down to target an enemy and where on their body you want to aim for, and what percentage of chances for a direct hit.

In the market outside "Filly" there was a man selling "fresh Iguana". Now IRCC in the games, there are no actual Iguana reptiles. Which means that the Iguana meat comes from another source....which the game either states explicitly, or implicitly.

Knight Titus running from the Bear and cursing is supposed to emulate typical new game player's first encounter with Boss enemies. Though its quite inconsistent with how BOS soldiers normally behave in the game. And usually BOS Knights carry a secondary weapon on them, and one that is quite capable of taking down a Yao Guai (Yogi) Bear. A 10mm pistol used by Maximus is normally not the best weapon to use. But I have seen players take down a Death Claw with a 10mm (granted they themselves died several times in the process).

That robot buried in the sand is called an Assaultron. They are extremely deadly, very powerful and very fast robots that will almost always attack you if they sense your presence nearby. They are also always female. There is a single friendly one in Fallout 4. If you ask her what she is, she will speak with a seductive voice and say, "I'm a woman, baby."

People who ended up in the vault were rich before the war as well, they were the only ones who could afford to buy a place in the vaults. The vault dwellers were the rich, and their children and grandchildren remained the rich before, during and after the nuclear apocalypse.

4:05 That tiny scene with the rusty robot in the sand is interesting. It's a replica made by fans that they gave to the TV crew when a call went out to the community for cool fanmade Fallout gizmos. It just a moment, but I can imagine it's a lot of fun for a new player that tries Fallout 4 after watching the series and meeting an assaultron in game: "Oooh, it like that bot in the serAAAAAIIIEEEH ITS MELTING MY FACE OFF"

There is no concrete protagonist, It’s an RPG so your character you create, male or female, are the protagonist or antagonist depending on how you wanna play. A big part of the game are the choices you make as it always affects the outcome of the ending. There are also multiple factions like the Brotherhood of steel (which are the reminants of the US military) and the Enclave (what the US government evolved or devolved into depending on how you see it) plus many more that you can either join or try to help other factions destroy as they are always warring with each other for control of the wasteland. They also play a big part in the direction of the story during the games depending on who you choose. The retrofuturistic design in Fallout reflects an alternate reality where society never progressed past the 1950s aesthetically and somewhat technologically But instead developed a way to harness atomic energy so while some of their tech advanced to futuristic proportions (like the robots) other tech (like microprocessors and transistors) never developed. That’s why some of their tech is so clunky and big. That being said in the Fallout universe a massive war over diminishing resources lead to nuclear annihilation across the planet by the year 2077, the vaults are giant underground fallout shelters scattered all across the US designed to sustain and preserve a controlled population of people so that one day they may return to the surface and re-establish a society to help restore America to its former state however the vault dwellers aren’t the only ones who managed to survive centuries of radiation.
